Winter may seem like a long ways away, but it actually may be coming up quicker than you think. Even though it’s Halloween, we decided to do something different for this week’s Weather Ready Nation Report. This week’s segment is all about winter weather lore. Will we have a white and cold winter, or will this winter be warm and dry? We searched the Farmer’s Almanac for winter weather lore and did some research to see if the lore will come true.
Lore #1: If the first week in August is unusually warm, the winter is long and white.
Lore #2: If on September 19th there is a storm from the south, a mile winter may be expected.
Lore #3: Much rain in October, much wind in December.
Lore #4: For every fog in October, a snow in the winter.
Lore #5: A heavy November snow will last until April.
Lore #6: If it rains much during the 12 days after Christmas, it will be a wet year.
