Happy Tuesday everyone! It has been another hot day across the South Plains but we have some significant changes in store for the remainder of the work week. First, the weak front that entered the region this morning will exit the South Plains tonight bringing some much cooler temperatures for your Wednesday. It will remain a sunny day with highs only reaching into the mid-70’s.

Thursday we will watch for a closed low to approach the region and for the dryline to set up right along the Texas/New Mexico border. The low will crank winds up during the afternoon and by the evening, the combination of the low and the dryline will bring a chance for potentially severe storms. Right now the Storm Prediction Center has placed us under the Marginal Risk Category and our biggest threats will be hail and damaging wind gusts. Storm potential will begin early evening on Thursday and continue through Friday morning.

As the system exits the region on Friday, it will bring very strong winds and therefore blowing dust and a higher fire weather potential. Hence it is important to be very cautious when barbecuing and to make sure that cigarettes are put out properly. Thankfully, beginning on Saturday continuing throughout next week, we are expecting lots of sunshine with a slow warming trend.
