The Texas Department of Public Safety said a plane crashed in Lamb County Tuesday morning. DPS said the pilot was airlifted to a Lubbock hospital by Aerocare.
“I kept listening to it and thought well the motor sure does sound good. The next thing I knew it stopped and I heard a loud boom and they say it blew up,” Lester Kennedy, a neighbor in the area where the single seater plane crashed.
Kennedy said the crop dusters fly around his home often and he knows how dangerous their job can be.
“They fly around these Highline poles. Then you have the weeds right there and then the highway on the other side of the road,” Kennedy said.
The Federal Aviation Administration was on scene investigating after the scene.
“All I can say is that the accident is being investigated. This type of thing usually takes several months to complete. We should have a preliminary report that will be posted within about 10 days on the NTSB’s Aviation Accident Database,” Lynn Lunsford, with the FAA said.
