BPD continues to investigate this case, but no arrests have been made at this time.

“We know he’s gone and it’s too late, but we want to know the story of our brother’s death,” Evan’s sister Nekia Anderson said. “I know I do, and I want to know the truth. I want to know what he was doing and why and I want to know why but we don’t know, we really don’t.”

Police said another 19-year-old man, Jim Mojica, was also shot during this incident, and was released from the hospital Wednesday.

“I sat there with my mouth open for minutes, just stuck, because I didn’t expect to lose him permanently,” Nekia said.

She held a vigil for her brother at Seagraves High School on Wednesday evening in honor of his memory. Nekia also started a memorial fund to raise support for her family as they plan his funeral service. More information can be found here.

“Stay on your siblings as much as you can,” Nekia said. “Keep them out these streets. You young kids out there, stay out the streets. Get your heads in books and get your heads in jobs. If you don’t want to go to college, don’t go to college but get you a job that you love and stick to it and stay out of these streets because it’s not what you want.”
