Damage reports began to stream in Wednesday morning from the storms that hit Lubbock and South Plains on Tuesday night.
Inside the city limits of Lubbock, damage reports from the Emergency Operations Center were limited to small hail and minor flooding. The EOC was reactivated on Wednesday morning in anticipation of high winds later in the day.
Images from a reporter in Anton showed a building destroyed and power lines down. Debris was scattered far and wide. Our reporter was continuing to collect information at the time of this report.
The website of the Lubbock office of National Weather Service listed the damage in Anton as a “possible tornado.” The storm damage will be the subject of further investigation.
The NWS recorded wind gusts in excess of 70 miles per house during the storm in Lynn County.
Two warehouses were heavily damages, utility poles were damaged, and a semi-truck was blown over in Lynn County, according to the NWS. Minor injuries were reported.
The NWS also said damage was reported to a house and power lines in Hockley County, and a steel building was destroyed one-quarter mile east of Dimmitt.
Around the region, the NWS said it would investigate if storm damage in Snyder was the result of a tornado or straight-line winds. The damage in Snyder included a flipped-over mobile home. Firefighters rescued a man from inside the trailer with no serious injuries reported.
In Abilene, images showed a radio tower smashed to the ground. Images from Zephyr, Texas showed severe damage to homes and other buildings.
In Dexter, New Mexico, Shani Pitzer shot video of a tornado. Images from Dexter indicated damage to homes, businesses and utility lines.
