BREAKING NEWS: Man charged for murder in Zoe Campos case

Lubbock Police on Friday night after 10 p.m. announced that human remains were found at a home in the 1900 block of 70th Street as part of their search for Zoe Campos.  The remains have not been identified yet, but they were found specifically in reference to the investigation of the Campos case.

Campos went missing on November 17, 2013.  She was 18 years old at the time.

Police Chief Greg Stevens said a bone found earlier in the week in the backyard was determined to be not human. However, remains were found when police searched a different part of the yard on Friday.

On Friday afternoon, police took an inmate from the Lubbock County Detention Center to the home so that the inmate could direct police on where to search.  He was handcuffed and wearing an orange jail jump suit.

The remains were located just hours after the inmate was brought to the home. The home was also the subject of a search warrant starting Friday afternoon.

EverythingLubbock.com found records of an inmate currently in jail who previously lived in the home.  Unless he is charged with a crime specifically related to the Campos case, police are not naming him. For the same reason, EverythingLubbock.com chose to withhold the name for now.

When Campos went missing, her car was later spotted with someone other than her driving it.  The car was later recovered at a Central Lubbock apartment complex.

Campos had texted her mom to say she would give her a ride home from work.  She never made it.  Campos’ cell phone was last pinged near Lowrey Field, which is not far from the house where the remains were found.

Police began a series of searches of the backyard of the home last week after getting a tip. The searches included special ground-penetrating radar.

Based on information from law enforcement sources, a murder charge is coming soon in the case.
