Texas Tech announced that football player Furquan “Quan” Shorts has been kicked off the team.

The athletics department said:

Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury announced this evening that junior wide receiver Quan Shorts has been dismissed from the program. Texas Tech will have no further comment on the matter.

Shorts was booked into the Lubbock Co. Detention Center for the second time in three months Thursday afternoon.  His charges were not yet listed on the jail booking sheet.

Early Thursday evening, Lubbock Police said:

At approximately 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 14, Lubbock Police officers were at an apartment complex in the 2200 block of Mac Davis Lane as part of an ongoing investigation. During the investigation, 21-year-old Furquan Shorts was arrested and booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center. He is currently charged with possession of marijuana.

Shorts was arrested along with other players in March amid allegations of causing a disturbance at Bash Riprock’s.

Four players were suspended but then later all four were brought back to the team.
