Littlefield Police and Texas Rangers began the investigation of a homicide Monday night. On Tuesday night, a suspect was publicly named as Brent Silvas, and he was arrested for murder according to the Lamb County Leader News.

“Littlefield Chief of Police Ross Hester said officers responded to a shots fired call and when they arrived on the scene around 10:15 p.m., and found Vernon Williams, lying near a blue Honda Civic,” the Lamb County Leader reported.
According to the Assistant Police Chief Leonel Ponce, Williams, 51, had life-threatening wounds from a gunshot.
Williams was taken to University Medical Center in Lubbock. Police were told of his death at about 2:00 a.m.
A second person sustained minor injuries from a gunshot in that same incident in the 400 Block of West First Street.
According to Assistant Police Chief Leonel Ponce, police detained three individuals for questioning.
Ponce said, “At this point, we don’t know what led to this.”
Williams father, Robert Clyde Williams, spoke out about losing his son.
“There’s nothing that will bring him back now. He was my backbone,” Williams said.
He fears that anger on the road may have played a role in his son’s murder.
“It was road rage,” Williams said. “They were chasing him, and I don’t know what happened after that.”
He said his son was hard-working and talented.
“He was a Pizza Hut man, a carpenter, a painter. He did a little bit of everything, because I taught him a lot of stuff growing up. He was just a good young man.”
